ChivaNet provides access to Usenet newsgroups via our NNTP server at news.chivanet.org.
Usenet newsgroups are discussion boards covering a wide range of topics, many of interest to retrocomputing enthusiasts.
Accessing ChivaNet's Usenet Newsgroups
In order to access Usenet newsgroups, you will need an NNTP client. Some examples include:
Mozilla Thunderbird - a modern, graphical client
tin - a minimal command-line client
Trumpet Newsreader - a graphical client for Windows 3.x, from the same company that made Trumpet Winsock
If you have never used our news server, you will need to first log in to the ChivaNet website with your ChivaNet account, at https://chivanet.org, which will synchronize your account credentials.
Once you have done this, point your NNTP client at news.chivanet.org and use your username and password from https://chivanet.org to sign in.
At this point, you should have full access to our Usenet news service.
