Using Pidgin
To use Pidgin with AIM on ChivaNet on Linux, follow these steps (you will need cmake, gcc, and the libpurple-dev libraries):
- Install Pidgin from your distribution's repositories
- Download AIM Plugin for Pidgin (Source) here: Download Info
- Extract like so:
$ tar xzf chivanet_aim_pidgin.tar.gz
- Build and install using these commands:
$ cd ChivanetAimPidgin
$ cmake -DPurpleDir=./purple-config.cmake -S oscarprpl/
$ cmake --build .
$ sudo cmake --install .
- Launch Pidgin
- At the Welcome to Pidgin! screen, click Add...
- Make sure AIM is selected in the Protocol field
- Enter your screen name in the Username: field and your password in Password:
- Click the Advanced tab
- Make sure the Server field says aim.chivanet.org
- Set the Connection security: field to Don't use encryption
- Set the Authentication method: field to MD5-based
- Uncheck Allow multiple simultaneous logins
- Click Add
